Exam Information

dMAT exam dates

dMAT is generally offered on a cyclical basis, roughly aligned with German university intake periods, rather than as a single fixed annual date. Exact dates vary by city, test centre availability, and the current exam calendar published by APS India.

Always confirm dates on the official portal

Exam dates, registration deadlines, and result dates are set and updated by APS India / g.a.s.t. — not by this site, and they can change without much notice. Treat every date on this page as illustrative rather than confirmed, and check the live official calendar before registering, booking travel, or making any other plans around a specific sitting.

The general cycle

dMAT sittings typically cluster around two periods each year, broadly corresponding to the Winter Semester (September/October) and Summer Semester (March/April) intakes at German universities. Registration windows usually open several weeks to a few months ahead of the exam date itself.

Spring cycle
~March

Feeds into Summer Semester (April) university intakes. Registration typically opens in the preceding months.

Autumn cycle
~September

Feeds into Winter Semester (October) university intakes — the more commonly used intake for most programmes.

Typical timeline before the exam

PLAN BACKWARD FROM YOUR INTAKE
Work back from your university's application deadline
Because APS certification (which may depend on your dMAT result) is usually required before or alongside your university application, the safest approach is to work backward from your target university's application deadline, not forward from "whenever the next dMAT sitting is."
A rough planning sequence
4–6 months before your application deadline: Confirm whether dMAT applies to you and begin structured practice.
2–3 months before: Register for the nearest suitable dMAT sitting.
After the exam: Allow time for results processing before your APS certificate and university application can be finalised.

What affects date availability

  • City and test centre capacity — major cities may offer more sitting options than smaller ones
  • Demand near application deadlines — sittings close to popular intake windows fill up faster
  • Administrative changes — APS India occasionally adjusts the cycle structure between years
